TapTip is a product of Thankyou! Inc. ("Thankyou!", "we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use TapTip (the "Service"). By using TapTip you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. When you create a TapTip account we collect your email address, display name, and chosen username. If you connect a Stripe payout account, Stripe collects your banking and identity information directly — we receive only a Stripe account ID.
Payment method tokens. When a tipper saves a payment method for quick tips, Stripe stores the card. We store only a Stripe payment method token, the card brand (e.g., Visa), and the last four digits of the card number. We never see, store, or transmit full card numbers, CVV codes, or expiration dates.
Transaction data. We record tip amounts, timestamps, optional notes left by tippers, and the Stripe payment intent or checkout session ID associated with each transaction.
Usage data. We may collect standard server logs including IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited, used only for operating and improving the Service.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Process and record tip transactions on your behalf.
- Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset).
- Display your tip page to customers who scan your NFC tag or visit your link.
- Detect fraud and prevent abuse of the Service.
- Respond to support requests and improve the Service.
We do not use your information for advertising or marketing without your explicit consent.
3. Payment Processing
All payment processing is handled by Stripe, Inc. Stripe is a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. When you enter card information on TapTip, that data goes directly to Stripe and is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy. TapTip never has access to raw card data.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as necessary to operate the Service:
- Stripe — to process payments and disburse tips to bartenders and service workers.
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider, which stores account data on our behalf under strict data processing agreements.
We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account information and transaction records for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to comply with legal and financial record-keeping obligations. Stripe retains payment records subject to their own retention policies.
6. Your Rights
- Access & correction. You can update your display name and email address at any time from your Account settings.
- Account deletion. To permanently delete your account and associated personal data, email us at the address below. We will process your request within 30 days. Note that we may retain transaction records as required for financial compliance.
- Saved payment methods. You can remove your saved payment method at any time from your tipper settings page.
7. Security
We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure session management, and access controls to protect your information. However, no system is perfectly secure. Please use a strong, unique password for your TapTip account.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a prominent notice on the Service. Continued use of TapTip after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
